Of course, personal taste is the most important thing, but here is one suggestion from my own wedding, which was held in my in-law's backyard.  We went to the local greenhouse and purchased loads of beautiful plants wholesale (we got a discount for bulk!), putting them on the tables, on the sign-in/gift table, and (don't laugh) in the port-a-potties (my mother-in-law didn't want 100 people using her one toilet).  After the wedding, any guests who wanted to could take the plants home.  Many of them planted them on their own properties, remembering our wedding each year when they bloom.

I also hand-made the card box, and we spread sparkly stars all over the table with the photographs.  Ah, yes, the photographs . . . we had a table covered with framed photos of my husband and me as babies, our parents' and grandparents' wedding photos, us with our siblings, and a few pre-wedding pictures.  From comments we received afterwards, people enjoyed looking at those old photos.
