Our wedding date falls on a holiday so we sent out invitations to guests early, and as expected most of them turned down the invite. We have prepared the second set of guests to invite but how do we send them the invitation and what are the proper ways to word them? We want to make them feel special even though they are just our second choice.

If you could manage to not let them know they are second choice it would be wonderful. Should they ask, I would offer that you mailed out in batches instead of by choices. Knowing they are on a secondary list makes them feel unwanted and likely not to attend.
