I have picked out my venue and my dress. My mom wants me to get a wedding planner, but my friends suggest that I get a day of coordinator or a designer. What should I get? Wedding is this December.

OK, first just to get a basic idea of the difference: A wedding designer creates the overall look of the wedding and will sometimes work with certain vendors to create the vision. A wedding planner deals with logistics and helps navigate through budgets, vendors, timelines, etc. A wedding coordinator usually only helps confirm with vendors and makes sure the event sticks to the timeline. Picking one really depends on what you feel your needs are. Do you already have a look in mind? Do you have a contact list of vendors and your budget? Do you have a friend who is going to handle all of the small fires/needs on the day of the wedding? Figuring out what you don't have is the best way to decide what you do need.

If you already have your vendors, you probably only need a day of coordinator, but make sure you review their services and look at their recommendations. Some DOC will start meeting with you a month in advance, and they really understand how you envision your wedding and how everything should flow. Other DOC just show up that day and don't have a good idea of what should be happening-- often times they still have to check with the bride during the wedding, which doesn't really take off the pressure.
