I'm having my dress preserved by the shop where I bought it, but they recommended making sure I have it cleaned ASAP after the wedding so that stains will not set in.

I'm storing mine in one of those special cardboard boxes that are acid free and am putting it on the top shelf in my closet so that the sunlight doesn't damage it.

I'm going with the museum method, which is where they hang your dress. Sometimes when they fold it up to fit in those boxes, the dress gets creases that never come out. If you decide to go with a box though, make sure you get one WITHOUT the plastic window on top. Those don't let the dress breath and allow sunlight to get to your dress.
