If you don't think most of your guests will be drinking, cash bar could cut down on cost. However, it is rather tacky. I would go dry before putting up a cash bar

Offer only signature drinks and limited selection of beer/ wine. Look for a venue that allows for BYOB.

Definitely open bar if you can afford it. I agree with lucy that you should choose something else, like maybe a soda bar, if you can't afford to pay for the alcohol.
